My small unit of Reavers, who if I am being honest are just there to be chopped up for Blood Tithe points. Yet to run a bigger unit of them, but I love the Blood Warriors too much.
When you absolutely have to have something crushed into the ground with no messing, there is only one model you really need to consider! Its time for a look at the Bloodthirster!
Big old box time and scary looking monster!
Looks like the kit gives you plenty of options, with perhaps a chance to do some magnetizing for weapon options and we all love magnets.
When even the box tab is angry!
So we get 2 spures in the box, crammed full with parts. The first thing that draws the eye is the wings; They are beastly, I mean that is a lot of plastic in those. But more worryingly is the small contact points, I like to mag things like wings but I think this may end up like Morty and need to be glued in place which is a shame.
The quality is as you would expect with GW, and perhaps I may get fed up with saying that 😀 but its true, there are lots of amazing models out there in the hobby but as long as the feel of a model is up your street you are not going to get a better shiny than a GW one.
Now time for some filthy close up shots of the sprue. The detail is always amazing, just look at how veiny he is they are everywhere..
While the weapons on this kit are frankly bonkers, the size of them is just………words fail me.
You can imagine anyone getting hit by one of these is going to be mist.
That is what a BT should be the most primal hitting machine in the universe. With only Heroes being very heroy being able to even handle them. To the extent I look forward to the time when we dont need the flying angry dog of Khorne and we just have massive axes zooming round the board making mist.
Looked at the 2-handed axe its taller than the model itself, and the axe is larger than most models.
The building was pretty straight forward and he balances really well despite only having 1 contact point to the base. Admittedly I went for foot down rather than the leaping skull base thingy mainly as if he was on that he wouldn’t fit on my shelves..
I was disappointed the wings did prove to be too tricky to mag up, mainly because it would have needed significant work within the model itself to make it happen.
Also the different weapon options could have been magnetised, well the other 2 seperate hand weapon builds anyway. The angles needed for the 2-handed axe with the different arms would have been great ‘fun’ to make work.
So I did chicken out and just stuck him together but I have plans for all those delicious spares 😀
Like the Wrathmongers before the chain section is actually pretty robust for a loose section. But I will ensure its stuck down once painting is complete for my sanity (more than likely onto the wing itself).
A stunning model that is going to make an amazing centre piece to an army and lets face it, thats as it should be for a Greater Daemon!
One additional thing that really surprised me is his size! After dealing with the bulk of a GUO last year. Having such a small big model caught me by surprised. His bulk is mainly from his wings and weapons. The actual body is pretty slim, as you can she compared to a Riptide.
So for the price of £52.50 from our friends over at Triple Helix Wargames, you are getting a very sexy model that is going to be great fun to paint. But perhaps he is showing he is angry because he is the smallest Greater Daemon 😉
So for those keeping up I recently reviewed the Wrathmonger box which is a lovely kit, but more importantly I was left with many spares.
So I have 5 torsos, a load of weapon options and some front plates to play around with but I need some legs. Skullreapers don’t strike me as something I could do as a snake body, too Slaaneshiiii
Since this is Chaos and Khorne I need something that has a nod to this….Maybe a Cenataur? but not sure a horse would work too well as I wanted to keep them on the 40mm base to be legal..
So after a dig around at the always helpful Triple Helix Wargames I came across the Fenrisian Wolf Pack which come on 40mm bases and as a set they are very cheap!
After cracking open the box all the wolves are a nice size and more importantly come with the heads detached 🙂
Lets get creative!!
well this certainly has some promise admittedly some of them are a little tall, so I decided to chop the wolf neck down a little bit.
So after some dry fitting and gluing I ended, we hit the next problem is the back..
Which should be easy enough as I still need to decide on the back banners and then its time to hit the Green Stuff!
But by far the best bit is they more or less match the size of the Wrathmongers!! This is key for me as you want to be able to say yes they are Skullreapers but they need to take up the same volume really and I think I have managed that!
With that in mind I have managed to get 2 units for the 3/4 the price of getting to boxes of the almost same models..
So if anything I am saving the environment with these……ignore the tight Yorkshireman writing.
The wolves I have to say are worth it for the price you pay plus I think they could be used in several armies.
Before the new plastic Flesh hounds landed I had considered them with some conversion to be my count-as.
