Slaves

So this is my gaggle of Slaves for my Dragyri 🙂 the are soft and squishy but boy are they cheap.

Plus everything matches my scheme so these are easily Ice or Air caste slaves.

Brood Starter Box Review

Its been a while but wooohoooo new shiny models 🙂
This time we get to have a look at the new Brood starter box for Dark Age. With all the genetic freaks (the need to do a Scott Steiner model) that you could wish for.

As always with these newer boxes we get a 500pt force out of the box and I think a pretty decent starting point for any Brood player. Hell you could get by with just this box if you wanted…..but that isn’t going to happen in this hobby 😉

So without any fanfare time to have a look.

So the box art is nice and something I have come to expect from these boxes, likewise the painted models look sexy. Dam those talented gits!!!

20180316_194554

So cracking open the box everything is well package and this box is stuffed to the gills with shiny. You get 8 models in this box which is one of the healthier model counts for Dark Age starter, unusually for these boxes however you don’t get what we could consider a ‘leader’ model but you do get plenty of grunt in the box.

Also from other boxes I have looked at this is the first all non-metal box I have got to play with! It also the only box with the newer flat bases rather than the deep ones. Now onto the shiny models..

Ratchets

Perhaps the biggest changing models from the original models. Although to be honest we are seeing a lot more organic feel to the Brood anyway. With one of the ratchets weapons actually part of its arm.

20180316_194738

The models themselves are really nice, low part count which is always nice. The plastic of these models does need superglue (not plastic glue) to put together.

20180316_202138

Really dynamic feel to the model, which I think sort of has a nod towards to zombies with the stance like the they are not completely sentient which is really cool for the faction.

Sawblades

The huge shift in design of the faction continues with the Sawblades. These guys are massive and the shield is amazing! Again low part count means they are really a joy to stick together!

Grists

More Organic conversion on the grists as their gun becomes part of them. A few more pieces for these guys, although I am unsure why the legs needed to be separate!

Really talented painters are going to have a field day with these models, the potential the sculpts give. Look at all the sinews on the arms etc really very nicely done!!

Broodhounds

The black sheep of the box, the models themselves are very cool and have an Avatar feel about them. But they are gap city when built compared to the rest of the box, you will need to spend some more time dealing with gaps with this guys.

The number of parts is not horrendous levels but compared to the rest of the box a certain step up.

Overall

The continuing goodness of these starter boxes is incredible. For those starting out you cannot go wrong, yes those long toothed gamers may already have most of the parts of these boxes.

These new box sets are great value for what you get in them, a fully functioning army that gives you access to a fair amount of the rules in the game. Finally, the family photo with everyone together..

20180316_202243

So for the cost of most starter sets you get yourself a full working list. Yes it may not be super super competitive but with this game you are still going to win some games. As it is mission led and you only need a couple of lucky rolls and things even the biggest things are going down!!

Now for those in the UK I cannot recommend my tame supplier enough Leodis Games, he does great work with the malifaux community and is working hard to do the same for Dark Age as well. Go give them a try you wont be disappointed 🙂

Dark Age Arena of Death part 2

Welcome to the second Dark Age Arena of DEATH!! Post, continuing from the first post and the Skarrd Cup we are moving onto the other faction prize.

Rules the same (200 points and not a character). This time we are playing with the Dragryi and their big guys, which with the rules set is the 4 big Elementals which has to be pretty damn cool.

The coliseum for the competitors is the same (18” gap between models and no terrain and 8 rounds of combat), we are ready to go!

Welcome to Round 1 of the Dragryi Jawbone Cup in which the Ice Elemental takes on the Fire Elemental.

Fire being the hot-head (yes I went there), charges forward ready to get to grips with Ice, stopping short knowing it has a decent range chance! Ice moves into for the kill, but subjects itself to some fire sprayed at it, becoming on fire but not taking any further damage.

As it gets to grips with the Fire elemental great clouds of steam come of the clashing pair! As they pull apart briefly Fire has taken some damage as a large chunk of falls as it harden into stone..

(Wound count 4-6)

Clearly slightly annoyed by the start, Fire begins to rip chunks of Ice resulting in some large parts of Ice falling apart like the glacials of the northen seas.

Heavily wounded and still burning Ice presses home after the shock of the flurry by Fire. But in the end the burning was proving to great and it resulted in a few misses by ice. It did manage some telling blows onto Fire but it was not enough and fire continued to rage reducing the Elemental to nothing but a puddle!.

FIRE ELEMENTAL WINS

Welcome to Round 2 in which the Storm Elemental takes on the Shadow Elemental.

Storm drifts forward and readies itself for dealing with the Shadows tricks, Shadow gladly accepts the challenge moves to crush the Storm. Unfortuanetly for Shadow it is hit by the full force of wind and takes damage before it gets into combat with its enemy. Alas the buffeting it suffered menat that Storm could easily sidestep its almost clumsy attack.

(Wound count 4-5)

Shadow tried to hammer home the small amount of momentum it hadn’t loss from the Storms attack. Although scoring a critical hit against storm and some additional damage it suffered a strange stumble from the swirling winds across the arena meaning it wouldn’t bring its full complement of attacks into Storm.

Storm sensing a chance plunged itself into Shadow and managed even more damage but it too seem to be struggling at times with darkness also forming around the arena.

(Wound count 2-3)

Shadow continued to hammer onto the Storm hoping to land a mortal wound onto the air itself and amazingly it almost manged it but didn’t have the energy to finish the job. Storm clearly suffering from some malaise and the coming darkness could not land a single blow onto the Shadow!!

(Wound count 2-1)

Storm with the spells that bind it together slowly failing made one last gambit to land the killing blow, but alas it could only count 1 landing blow. With that done the Shadow slowly finished Storm at its leisure to leave nothing but a breeze.

SHADOW ELEMENTAL WINS

Welcome to the final round, in which the Fire Elemental takes on the Shadow Elemental.

So Shadow having dealt with its cousin so ‘easily’ surged forward to expunge the light from the competition. Amazingly showing unseen before patience Fire moved forward and sprayed fire over shadow. Perhaps surprised by this Shadow couldn’t avoid the heat and was left charred in places.

(Wound count 4-5)

Shadow using all its tricks moved in to take the attack to Fire and like Ice before found the Fire surrounding it to difficult to deal with and couldn’t land any blow to Fire but more of its self was burnt further.

Fire not wanting to let Shadow gain any upper hand set about punishing Shadow and lay about it in brutal fashion. Then at the last moment the Shadow simply disappeared. Leaving and annoyed but victoous Fire.

FIRE ELEMENTAL WINS

It advances forward as the representative of the Dragryi faction.
