Avatar Somer Review

Welcome to my review of my latest Avatar from Malifaux (Wyrd Guys). This time it is Somer and Peaches or Avatar of Indulgence;

The Box

As you can see it is a pretty standard Wyrd box which is the smallest possible box you will see for the size of the miniatures. And like all instances of these boxes you will need to deal with bent parts on occasions but from my experience nothing great than you get from other companies. As usual you get the miniature artwork on the front which matches the book. So overall a feeling of familiarity.

The Bits

Thats a lot of bits……..

Now comparing this to the aSeamus kit I have also reviewed Somer takes the number of parts to the next level with a lot more metal than resin in this kit than the Seamus one.

The Cards

Like all Avatars Somer comes with the standard 2 rule cards. Which is much easier on old eyes ;)

The Miniature

So first a confession I was not a fan of the miniature when Wyrd first previewed it something didn’t sit right but not one to let my gremlins suffer I picked him up anyway and I must say I am mightily impressed with him now (will teach me not to trust Wyrd).

First up the resin piece (back bacon)

It is the same resin we saw with aSeamus and is well finished although the detailing is not as impressive but expected due to the nature of the miniature.

What I will say is this is one BIG pig.

The Build

As you would imagine this is not the most difficult of miniatures to put together. Everything fits relatively well but some GS work is needed to fill in the odd gap going on with the metal-to-resin pieces.

The one issue I had with this build was that I had to find pictures on the internet of the finished miniature to see how the moonshine still fitted onto peaches perhaps I was being daft when I put it together but I needed the pics to get everything right. Although not essential a little diagram would not have gone a miss.

The Scale

The usual scale picture with the usual characters as you can see this is the fully painted mini for a change I forgot to take pics of the bare metal/resin like I would normally do.

The Finish

May Wyrd Releases

SO lets have a look…

This is my favourite of the riders…relatively plain but very well done.

holy moly that thing is HUGE very nice although not a fan of little head..

Sorry but this is poor for me although dynamic I am a fan of the original.

Very nice I like these guys a lot.

Wow liking Iggy must go read his rules ;)

Really close to the artwork I approve

again I approve great concept.

Again I am liking it although not as much as the arcane one.

Still not as good as the arcane one but I really like it though.

Easter Gremlins

The crazy people at wyrd have some special miniatures for the Easter period and what better way to do it than with Gremlins :D

Gremlin in a bunny suit………..what can I say but AWESOME!

That is one scary 4 legged chicken….

Introduction to Vassal

As some of you may have noticed I have started to push a new  community website based around Warmachine/Hordes.

They are trying to increase the UK community via articles and live Vassal games.

Now my experience of Vassal is very very limited I have downloaded it in the past but that is as about as far as I get with it :(

Now to help me and you really I have borrowed some videos done by Wargames@farfaraway.org or @oconlan on Twitter.

So if you want to give Vassal a try then please have a look then head on over to the software website.

Avatar Seamus Review

Welcome to my review of my first Avatar from Malifaux (Wyrd Guys). As you have noticed I have gone for Seamus and his Avatar of Dread. Or to everyone on the internet Mr Hyde/Hulk . So let’s make a start on this bad boy;

The Box

First the box it is a pretty standard Wyrd box which is the smallest possible box you will see for the size of the miniatures (definitely environmentally conscious) yes they has been times that parts maybe bent etc due to this design it does relativity well when compared to other companies packaging. As always superb art work (matches the book) and as he is a mainly resin miniature very light.

The Cards

What do we get in the box then? Well we get everything we need to make Seamus as well as his rule cards which is split over 2 cards. Which makes sense unless you want a microscope to read all those nasty things you can do ;)

The Miniature

So first thoughts WOW a great piece of work.

Surprisingly there is not much work needed to get him up and running some excess resin flash under each arm and some mold lines to remove (Warning if you have never dealt with resin before be careful it is softer than metal so will not need that much effort to remove lines, treat it like plastics).

I am surprised that the other hand couldn’t be done in resin as a one piece but then what do I know about creating things like this so I will trust Wyrd, perhaps it would have been too weak?

Although a single piece I am surprised how unlike earlier Wyrd miniatures (Teddy springs to mind) he does not feel flat, this is a great positive.

The Build

As you would imagine that he goes together pretty easily being only 3 pieces and the fist does fit relatively well although you will have the odd gap to fill there is nothing to strenuous to deal with

ignore the blood that is just me being clumsy and bleeding to give you lot reviews.

The Scale

As always I must have a scale picture with the usual characters but thought it would be handy to have some Malifaux bits in there as well just so you can see the monster that he is.

The Finish

Very simple piece of miniature but he is certainly menacing and some how kept the feel of normal Seamus so big thumbs up there.

There is not much to say as the pictures do most of the work, besides how can anyone say no to a very a giant Mr Hyde model.

I am looking forward to painting him (in a few years ;) ) and now I must leave you

Puppet Wars Review

I have been eyeing up this from Wyrd for a long time and well I have still to take the plunge.

Far too many other shiny things to distract me with ( I know I am weak). Anyway well stalking the internet I came across a review of the game from Living in a Gamer Paradise.

So I thought I would share it with you lot ;)

Part 1 (with Videos) and Part 2 enjoy..
